TOURIST PLACES NEAR ANANTAPUR

 

LEPAKSHI (click here)

Lepakshi is situated 110 km from Anantapur. If you have an eye for architecture and historical places, you need to visit Lepakshi. The place has 108 Shiva temples. Lord Veerabhadhra Temple belonging to the 16th century displays fine architectural skills. The intricately carved pillars and rock sculptures speak volumes of architectural brilliance possessed by the artisans. The murals on the temple’s ceilings are amazing. THIMMAMMA MARRIMANU (click here)

Amidst man made wonders, which show the excellence of human brains, we find that Anantapur houses one of the excellent wonders of bestowed by nature on this land.Thimmamma Marrimanu is a banyan tree, which is the biggest in South India. Situated 100 km from Anantapur, the tree’s branches spread across 5 acres of land. The tree was named after a woman called Thimmamma, who committed sati after her husband’s death. The belief that childless couple will be blessed with children on visiting this place makes it a top tourist attraction.

  

BELUM CAVES (click here)

Belum Caves are ranked second largest after Meghalaya Caves and it is the longest cave in India. Situated 85 km from AnantapurOut of the three well like cavities, the one in the middle serves as the main entrance. The exquisite formations of stalactite and stalagmite are stunning. So is color illumination of Belum Caves. The caves present an interesting study to the onlooker with its musical chamber, meditation hall, simhadwaram and patalganga. The caves rightly deserve the title ‘Unique Eco-Tourism Project’ bestowed on it by the Indian government.

It is situated 164km from Anantapur. Located within the ruins of Vijaynagar, Hampi is a world heritage site and one of the most important historical sites across the world. Vijaynagar was the capital of the erstwhile Vijaynagar Kingdom and the ruins are built near the banks of the Tungabhadra River. The city has some of the most magnificent buildings and sites that display the architectural brilliance of the Vijaynagar rulers. Its various temples are heavily frequented by pilgrims and tourists and is a great place to visit.
